Building Owambe Fashion Games: Our Journey at the EWA AI Hackathon

Hello, neighbours of the fashion street 👋🏾

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a lot of engagement around Owambe Fashion Games, and we’re truly grateful for all the feedback and curiosity about what we’re building. It feels like the right time to share a quick update on our journey and where we’re headed.

At its core, Owambe Fashion Games is a gamified fashion platform that celebrates the culture, creativity, and attitude of Africa. Our mission is simple: redefine visibility for African designers by turning fashion discovery into a playful, immersive experience.

Last month, during the concluded Entertainment Week Africa (EWA), Owambe Fashion Games was selected to participate in the AI Hackathon a one-week sprint to build, pitch, and refine ideas in front of investors, founders, and industry experts.

Hosted daily at Alliance Française, the hackathon brought together some of the brightest minds building solutions across media and entertainment: music, film, events, and gaming. In the middle of all that innovation, Owambe Fashion Games stood tall, sharing its vision for the future of African fashion.

Here’s a quick look at our experience:

On Day 1, we were welcomed into the hackathon, taken through the process, and given time to build, refine our ideas, and connect with fellow builders.

On Day 2, we pitched our demo to the facilitators and received practical feedback on how to communicate our product more clearly, help investors understand what we’re building, and create a stronger emotional connection around our story.

On Day 3, we joined masterclasses and panel sessions with founders and entrepreneurs working at the intersection of AI and entertainment across Africa. These conversations helped sharpen our thinking around product, business model, and long-term vision.

On Day 4, we stepped onto the main pitch stage, presenting Owambe Fashion Games to a room of investors and founders. The feedback we received was incredibly encouraging and reinforced our belief that there is a real need for what we’re building.

One of our biggest reasons for joining the AI Hackathon was to learn:
To get honest feedback from industry experts, test our assumptions, and spread the word about how Owambe Fashion Games is tackling fashion visibility for African designers in a fresh way.

We’re deeply grateful to Darey Art Alade and the entire Entertainment Week Africa team for creating this platform and giving us the opportunity to share our vision.

This is just the beginning.

Until next time, neighbours, remember what we say over here:
The “A” in Africa stands for Attitude, Atarodo, and All Things Extra.
